Ok, so if anyone has seen the comparisons of the USA's senate holding up little signs compared to Serbia's government throwing smoke bombs in the seat... here's some more info. Politics matters, even when we get down to a song contest.
So, because of dishonest news coverage and cover-ups of corruption, it seems a lot of the younger people boycotted Serbia's national final this year. Because of this boycott, Serbia went with a very safe, conservative option.
Konstratka (one of my all-time favorites) famously brought a song to Eurovision about how artists in Serbia do not receive healthcare, and how shameful it is that a country that can care for its citizens would let their them die for profit. It's iconic and I will always think of her when I wash my hands.
But this year we get basically a cover-all bingo sheet song for Eurovision. It's got two moons, a rose, a vaguely rustic man singing a ballad.. just kind of bland in my opinion.
I'll watch this later, but shoutout to reddit and Eurovangelists for promoting it.
